Obituary: John Wade Deme

John Wade Deme, a devoted horticulturist and educator, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, at the age of 83. He was born on November 17, 1941, in Astoria, New York.

The family will greet friends Sunday, December 22nd, from 2-3pm at Edwards Funeral Home.

John earned his Master’s Degree in Horticulture Science from the University of Kentucky, laying the foundation for his long career. Serving as the Head of the Horticulture Department at Lenoir Community College, he inspired countless students and developed life-long friendships.

Beyond his academic contributions, John opened Amaryllis Gardens at his home. In addition to growing stunning amaryllis, his diverse horticultural interests and talents were evident in his hosta plants and aquatic flora. John’s life was marked by a deep passion for plants and a commitment to sharing his knowledge with others.

Throughout his years, John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, taking lots of pictures, and a good joke.

John is survived by his daughter, Lynn Ruth and her husband, Jack of Florida.

In addition to his parents, John Deme, Jr. and Irene Parajos Deme, John is preceded in death by his daughter, Kristy Deme Eubanks.
