Obituary: Ruby Frances Davis Allison

KINSTON: Ruby Frances Davis Allison, age 90, left this earth in the early morning of Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Spring Arbor of Kinston following a brief illness.

Frances was born August 26, 1933, in Greene County, the fourth child of Arthur and Nola Davis. She was reared in Greene County and moved to Kinston after high school where she worked for several years before meeting the love of her life, Rufus F. Allison, Jr; they married January 9, 1955.

Together, they raised a family of four children in Kinston and she was a wonderful loving mom and devoted wife. After becoming empty nesters, she and Rufus had more time to travel, enjoying clubs, AARP, civic groups and duties, volunteering, and being an active member of Spilman Memorial Baptist Church.

She discovered the NC Senior Games Program at age 55 and spent the next thirty years as a very active participant in the local, state, and national level. She excelled at all sports and she and Rufus gained a new family of similarly minded people that enriched their lives greatly.

In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her brothers, James Davis, Lin Davis, and Ed Davis; and sisters, Hilda D. Eubank and Lew D. Bradshaw.

She is survived by her children, Jackie Allison (Trish) of Youngsville, Lou Anne Allison of Morehead City, Randy Allison (Paula) of Willow Spring, and Chris Allison of Stella; grandchildren, Taylor Allison (Cathy) of Durham, Stephanie Allison of Valdosta, GA, Kyle Allison of Aurora, and Cooper Allison of Morehead City; great-grandson, Bobby Allison of Durham; special family member, Helen Miller; brother-in-law, John Allison (Mary Ann) of Hampton, VA; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of Spring Arbor who became additional family to Frances and her children; and a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice of Kinston.

A service to celebrate Frances’ life will be held at 12:30 PM Saturday, March 16th, at Spilman Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. H. Powell Dew, Jr. officiating. The family will greet friends and extended relatives immediately following the service at the church.

Committal Services will be held privately at the Rainbow Cemetery in Snow Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the NC Senior Games, 4603 Western Blvd, Raleigh, NC 27606 or Spilman Memorial Baptist Church, 601 Madison Avenue, Kinston, NC 28501.
