Dear Editor

My name is Cameron Davis, I am a student at East Carolina University majoring in Public Health with a Concentration in Community Health. I am interning at Kinston Community Health Center, in the Community Outreach Department.

Kinston Community Health Center is collecting new and/or gently used books for elementary school-aged children between the ages of five and nine. This book drive aims to support the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority by bridging the education gap and supporting learning. The Boy Scouts of America/East Carolina Council is donating a box that will be placed outside of the Center, which will be a free little library where people can take a book or share a book.

To kickstart this book drive, Kinston Community Health Center and Grainger Stadium have collaborated to host a competition inviting various organizations to participate and compete in the book drive. The winning organization will be gifted six complimentary box seats and granted the privilege of throwing the first pitch at the upcoming game on Sunday, April 7th.

Organizations are also welcome to set up an informational table on April 7th.  Organizations will receive two tickets on the day of the game.  All that is asked is that the organization deliver five to ten books when checking in that day.

Residents and organizations can help with these efforts by continuing to donate books after April. Your support would to make an impact providing this resource to the children in our community. For more information on book donations contact Cameron Davis at camodavo12@gmail.com and/or Anna Kinsey at anna.kinsey@kinstonchc.org
