The decision regarding the renewal of Children's Village Charter School's operating contract has been deferred after a lengthy discussion during a recent Charter School Review Board meeting. The school has been under scrutiny due to ongoing financial challenges and concerns raised by board members.

During the meeting, Bruce Friend, the Chair of the board, expressed apprehension about the school's financial standing and its ability to repay outstanding debts. Stephen Walker, a board member appointed by the Senate, raised a pressing question about the source of funds for a substantial payment owed by the school, highlighting the precarious nature of its financial situation.

Financial concerns were echoed by several board members, with Rita Haire emphasizing the school's "poor track record" and the need for clear evidence of fiscal stability before considering renewal. Hilda Parlér pointed out discrepancies in the handling of conflicts of interest within the school's leadership, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability.

The decision to defer the renewal vote to the next meeting, scheduled for May 6th, was supported by the majority of the board. The board requested that Children’s Village Academy’s board also be required to attend the meeting in May.
