DEEP RUN - The recent FFA Plant Sale at South Lenoir High School provided a glimpse into the world of agricultural education, highlighting the efforts of students to cultivate and nurture various plants while learning essential skills for their future endeavors.

Anadela Rodriguez, Chapter Secretary and News Federation Vice President, along with Adilee Rich, Vice President of South Lenoir High School and President of the News Federation, led the tour of the greenhouse, emphasizing the significance of the event for both their chapter and the students involved.

The greenhouse showcased a wide array of plants, all meticulously grown and cared for by the students themselves. Rich emphasized that everything in the greenhouse was student-led, from planting to propagation, illustrating the hands-on nature of the horticulture program.

“Our students have planted and grown everything you see here,” Rich noted proudly.

Rodriguez stressed the educational and financial benefits for the chapter and its members.

“This helps our new students learn how FFA functions and how events like this can benefit them in the future,” she said. “And it also helps us generate funds for our chapter.”

For Rich, the significance of agriculture extends beyond the classroom. “Agriculture is a second home to me,” she shared. “It’s a reminder of love and childhood, and something I’m passionate about for the future.”

Both Rodriguez and Rich encouraged others, especially those unfamiliar with FFA, to explore the organization and its opportunities.

“FFA isn’t just for farmers,” Rich emphasized. “It’s about fostering a love for agriculture and building leadership skills for any future career.”

As the plant sale continues, Rodriguez and Rich invite the community to support their efforts by visiting South Lenoir High School and browsing the selection of plants available.

“Our plant sale runs from Tuesday, April 16th to Wednesday, April 17th,” Rodriguez informed. “We welcome visitors to drive around the gym and make their way to the greenhouses, where they can find a variety of plants cultivated by our students.”

To support the FFA chapter, donations and sponsorships are also welcomed. Information about sponsorship opportunities can be found on the organization’s social media pages.

The success of the FFA Plant Sale not only highlights the dedication of its student members but also underscores the importance of agricultural education in shaping future leaders in the field.
