Library Offers Assistance with Preserving Memories Through Community Scan Day
By Carolyn Schulman, Head of Technical Services
Do you have documents you want to preserve but don’t have the resources to create a digital backup? Neuse Regional Libraries will be hosting community scanning events at our libraries during the months of April and May. At these events, we can scan and digitize items such as photographs, newspaper clippings, church bulletins, family histories, and much more. The digitized items will be saved on a flash drive for the patron to keep along with the original items. These events are a way of connecting with the members of our community and preserving local history.
There will be four of these events taking place in the month of April:
April 6, 2024 from 10 AM - 2 PM at the Kinston Lenoir County Public Library
April 13, 2024 from 10 AM - 2 PM at the La Grange Public Library
April 20, 2024 from 10 AM - 2 PM at the Pink Hill Public Library
April 27, 2024 from 10 AM - 2 PM at the Greene County Public Library
Additionally, we will have two more events taking place in Jones County during the month of May:
May 2, 2024 from 4 PM - 6 PM at the Pollocksville Public Library
May 9, 2024 from 4 PM - 6 PM at the Trenton Public Library
Community Scan Day was inspired by the development of the Neuse Regional Library Local History Resource Guide, which is a collection of digitized historical and genealogical materials related to the history of Lenoir, Jones, and Greene,, as well as resources for patrons to utilize as they begin their genealogical research. Our purpose in creating this libguide is to preserve and expand access to the local history materials at each of our branches. . The Resource Guide can be found at https://neuselibrary.libguides.com/nrllocalhistory.
