Obituary: Jimmie Johnson Sanders

Mr. Jimmie Johnson Sanders, age 86, passed away Sunday morning, April 28, 2024, at Wickshire Assisted Living in Charlotte. He was born September 2, 1937, in Onslow County, to the late Kenneth and Thelma Pittman Sanders.

Following graduation from high school he served his country in the US Air Force. He graduated from Mount Olive Junior College, Barton College and Appalachian State University where he earned his Master's degree in Health and Physical Education. He taught health and physical education and coached basketball and baseball for numerous years. He also worked at Caswell Center and Dobbs School until his retirement. He loved playing golf and singing in the choir at Stoney Creek Church, Goldsboro. Jimmie was a Christian man who loved the Lord and his family. While attending Mount Olive Junior College he played on the first baseball team in the history of the school.

His surviving family includes his daughters, Laura Sanders Kell and husband Eric of Fort Mill, SC, and Terri Sanders Baker and husband Mike of Wilmington; a sister, Helen Parker and husband David of Holly Ridge; grandchildren, Justin Kell, Ryan Kell, Tyler Kell and Micah Baker; the mother of his children, Bertie Hill Sanders; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Sanders and brothers, Starkey Sanders, and Dexter Sanders.

A private funeral service will be held for the immediate family.
