Beloved canine Jury of LCSO remembered for heroic tracking
It is with profound sadness the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office announces the passing of retired canine “Jury.”
Canine Jury was donated to the LCSO in 2011 by Anson County Sheriff’s Dep. Jimmy Williams. She started her career at the LCSO by being assigned to handler Kenneth Black from 2011-14 and was then assigned to handler Gary Turner from 2014-16. From 2016-18, she was assigned to Sgt. Jothan Nesselrotte; from 2018-21 to Steven Key; and from 2021 to her retirement in January 2023, she was assigned to Det. John Harper.
Jury specialized in tracking and trailing and was responsible for numerous positive locates throughout her career with her different handlers. She was often called upon by outside agencies to assist in locating missing children, missing dementia patients and various suspects.
Jury was loved throughout the Sheriff’s Office but none more so than by her handlers.
She retired from her long service career in January 2023 and returned home with her former handler, Sgt. Nesselrotte.
Please keep the family of Sgt. Nesselrotte in your prayers as they say goodbye to this treasured member of their family.
