Lenoir Community College Student Government Association President Savannah Boseman of Kinston has been recognized as LCC’s recipient of the Governor Robert Scott Leadership Award. 

The North Carolina Association of Community College Presidents created the Governor Robert Scott Leadership Award to highlight outstanding curriculum student leadership and service.

She is pursuing an associate in applied science degree in criminal justice and plans to graduate in May in hopes of transferring to Western Carolina University to earn a bachelor’s in criminal justice. Upon graduating from WCU, she plans to join the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation with the goal of becoming an investigator. She plans to specialize in human trafficking investigations and crimes against children.

Throughout her time at LCC, Boseman has displayed exceptional leadership and dedication. Serving as the 2023 – 2024 President of the Student Government Association, she led with distinction. Her commitment to academic excellence is evident in her membership in the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society chapter, where she demonstrated exceptional scholarship. She has maintained a 4.0 college grade point average and is a recipient of the LCC Guarantee, the E. Merle Edwards Scholarship, and the Dr. Frank Rocker Jr. Scholarship through the College Foundation. She also is a technical assistant working the College’s Distance Education Department.

“Leadership to me is not about holding a position of power but about making a positive impact,” Boseman said. “My leadership journey has been a profound learning experience, teaching me the value of responsibility, empathy, and perseverance. My leadership journey at LCC has been a transformative experience, shaping me into a leader who values empathy, inclusivity, and community impact.”

Boseman’s contributions extend beyond academics. As an ex-officio member on the LCC Board of Trustees, she ensured student voices were heard in decision-making processes. Her active involvement in Bethel Fellowship Church and Youth Group reflects her dedication to community service. She is also a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, showcasing her resilience and commitment to personal growth.
