Obituary: William Carven Stallings, Jr.

In Loving Memory of William Carven Stallings, Jr.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William Carven Stallings, Jr., affectionately known as Bill, of Kinston and Atlantic Beach. He departed this life on Monday, June 17, 2024, at CarolinaEast Health Systems in New Bern at the age of 75.

Bill was born August 27, 1948, in Newport News, VA and relocated with the family to Kinston in the early 1950s. He graduated from Grainger High School in 1966 and was an avid outdoorsman, who loved playing baseball, hunting, and fishing. In 1970, Bill married Brenda Wetherington and together they made Kinston their home, where they raised their sons, and he began his career within the family business.

Bill was deeply proud and passionate about the family business, Stallings Plumbing, Heating, & A/C, started by his father in 1962. He dedicated many years to the business, working up and down the east coast and would often share stories of the places he traveled. He continued to work alongside his brother, Wayne Stallings, until his retirement. Those who knew him from the business knew his clock ran on beach time, and waves do not follow clocks. Following the tides after 49 years in the business, he spent his retirement at Atlantic Beach with family and friends. He often spoke fondly of his trips to Key West with friends, dancing at the shag clubs, fishing trips, attending baseball games, and gatherings with the ones he loved.

Known to many as “Junior”, “Otter”, or even “Plumber”, it was evident he had built many strong relationships wherever he went. He can be remembered for his effortless charm with all those he met and his “Cadillac” taste. Bill’s legacy of love, passion, and adventure will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held, Friday June 21, 2024, at 6 pm at First Baptist Church, 2600 Rouse Road, Kinston, NC. The family invites you to join them for refreshments in the fellowship hall following the service.

Bill is survived by his sons, Jonathan Carven Stallings (Jessica), Walter Cameron Stallings, (Kari), brother, Wayne Ray Stallings (Cassie), four beautiful grandchildren, Riley, Lily, Weston, and Whitley, two special nieces, Krystal Stallings O’Dell (Steven), and Mindi Stallings Tugwell (Michael), Aunt Betty Jane Bowen, dear friend Diane Warrender, and many special friends that he considered his extended family. He is proceeded in death by his father, William Carven Stallings, Sr and mother, Christine Reeves Stallings, along with maternal and paternal grandparents, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
