Lenoir County restaurant inspections

The following inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:


Kam's Hibachi and Thai

2438 Hwy 11 S, Kinston

Date: 4/09

Score: 93

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present. 

The slicer needs additional cleaning. 

Lettuce and carrots for egg rolls were stored directly in a plastic grocery bag.

Several wet wiping cloths were observed on work surfaces. Keep clean wiping cloths in proper strength sanitizing solution.

The inner lining of the lift top prep unit is taped together. 

This facility does not have dumpster or cans at this time. Garbage is gathered at the end of the day and taken to the other location dumpster at Jackson Heights.

Observations: 

Person in charge is not ServSafe certified. 

Sanitizer way too strong. 

Chili and hot dogs received today and yesterday missing date mark.

Person in charge observed wearing bracelet.

Hood still not working. 

Two refrigerators in establishment are the building owner's and not used by the restaurant/establishment. 

Kings Restaurant 

405 E New Bern Road, Kinston

Observations: 

Clean dishes observed with food residue, splatter, and old date marking stickers. Soiled items: dinner plate, clear plastic pans, bowls, beer glasses, sheet pan, etc.

Approximately 15 bags of BBQ cooked and packaged yesterday was at 43-49F in walk-in refrigerator.

Few foods in walk-in refrigerator range from 42-44F.

Large bin of cut, raw cabbage in walk-in is dated yesterday but was cut this morning. Date sticker needs to changed when cabbage is cut and put in the bin.

Roach observed on the cook line, flies observed in the employee men's restroom.

Employees observed wearing watches.

Ice scoop stored on top of sticky lid for ice chest.

Gaskets on Henny Penny unit needs to be replaced.

Cutting boards in BBQ room have deep groves that are difficult to clean. Cutting boards shall be replaced or repaired to ensure proper cleaning can be completed.

Shelving units, outside/inside refrigerators, wire racks, dish racks, plate carts, etc. 

Leak still present at 2 compartment sink in dish room.

Ceiling tiles have damage, and holes present on ceiling in storage room.

Floors, walls and ceilings need additional cleaning due to build up of dust, grease, flour, etc. Bacterial growth still present on ceiling in storage room.

Lovicks

Observations: 

Bleach sanitizer in the dish machine shall read a min of 50ppm based on data plate. Dish machine was registering 0ppm.

Raw shelled eggs were left on counter next to grill top. 

In prep to the following items were above 41F: diced ham 43F, tomato 50F, burger 50F, sausage patty 47F, dough burger 48F. Reach in cooler: pork chop 46F, raw bacon 45F.

Employees were observed preparing food and handling clean dishes without hair nets.

Torn gasket on right door of prep fridge.

No bleach test strips available.

Ma's Hot Dog House & Grill 

2515 Hwy 258 S, Kinston

Observations: 

Employees observed cleaning their hands, turning off the faucet with their cleaned hands, and then drying with paper towels. To avoid recontamination employee shall use a barrier to turn off faucet. 

Back door has visible sunlight showing all around door. Doors need to have sweeps or need to be adjusted or replaced to close all gaps and prevent pests from entering.

Aroma rice steamer, stove and refrigeration not for commercial use.

Rusted chipping shelves in reach in units next to cook line. Shelving shall be repaired or replaced with approved ANSI equipment.

Shelving in back of house and above prep unit in front of house visibly soiled. 

Pepsi cooler in back of house door frame and internal unit soiled. 

Some areas of floor are cracked and wall above prep table has chipping paint.

Walls, floors and ceiling need additional cleaning, attention needs to be taken behind equipment on cook line.

Lighting above prep tables read 11 ft candles. Light intensity above cook top, under hoods read 6 ft candles. Lighting shall be 50 ft candles of light above all food prep areas.

McDonald's 

612 E New Bern Road, Kinston

Observations: 

Observed employees not properly containing hair.

Employees observed wearing bracelets and watches.

Wet wiping cloth observed on shelf under microwave.

Several dishes stacked wet.

Build up present on bottoms of reach in refrigerators and freezers, gaskets have heavy build up observed on all cooler/freezer doors, shelves under burger line area, etc. 

Dumpster open and uncovered. 

Build up of food, grease, dirt, etc under and behind equipment observed.

Employee meal found in kitchen microwave area. 

Midway Mart & Grill 

8176 Hwy 258 S, Pink Hill

Observations: 

No certified food protection manager present. 

Employee wearing gloves took order at register then went straight to making the order with out changing gloves or washing hands.

Observed container of shredded cheese on shelf under prep table. Person in charge stated they leave cheese out at room temperature for multiple days before using it to make biscuits.

Observed 1 squeeze bottle on the 3 comp sink with blue dish soap with out the common working name. 

Observed bag of brisket with date of 4/8/24.

Food employees wearing bracelets.

Murrays BBQ and Seafood 

123 E Washington Street, La Grange

Observations:

Cooked meatloaf and cabbage from yesterday missing date mark.

Ceiling vents, shelving units, food bins, outside of equipment, gaskets of units, bottoms of units, etc. need additional cleaning.

Build up present on floors, walls, and ceiling. These areas need additional cleaning.
