Obituary: Phyllis Taylor Jones

Phyllis Taylor Jones, age 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2024, surrounded by her family.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 2pm at The Way Church, 1205 Lynn Dr, Kinston, NC 28504.

Phyllis was born in Evansville, Indiana on July 26, 1939, to Stoy Eugene and Wilma Donner Taylor. She dedicated over 30 years of her life to nursing, a profession she excelled in with compassion and commitment. She served at Caswell Developmental Center and Dupont, touching countless lives during her nursing career. Phyllis's faith was a cornerstone of her life. With her husband serving as a Minister in the United Methodist Church, she served faithfully as a Lay Minister, offering spiritual support and guidance to her community.

She was a devoted family woman who cherished every moment with her loved ones. She found joy in crocheting hand towels, a craft she mastered and shared generously with family and friends. Her kindness extended beyond her immediate circle, as she had a soft spot for cats, often taking them in and providing them with a loving home.

Phyllis was also a dedicated caregiver to her husband until his passing, demonstrating her unwavering strength and compassion. Her kind heart and gentle spirit left a mark on all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. Her legacy of kindness, care, and love will continue to inspire and comfort those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Tracy Houston (Billy); sons, Lin Jones (Sandy), Rudy Jones (Christina); grandchildren, Adam Jones (Ally), Cameron Jones (Marianne), Taylor Houston, Dean Johnson, Andrew Jones (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Kylie, Savannah, Bryson, Paisley, Blake, Charlie Kate; brothers, Steve Taylor (Debbie), Rudy Donner (Donna), Allen Donner (Rosie); sister, Rita Highland. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 59 years, Linwood “Lindy” Jones.
