Willie Moore August 6, 1947 – July 10, 2024

Willie Marvin Moore, 76, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. Willie was born in Duplin County to the late Elias and Sarah Cruse Moore on August 6, 1947. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight siblings: John Moore, Henry Moore, Eddie Moore, Mary Perry, Betty Stallings, Marie Sessoms, Arlene Noland, and Helen Christine Edwards; and sister-in-law, Lavone Parker.

Honorably serving our country in the United States Army, Willie served as a fire fighter and was stationed at Ft. Wainwright in Alaska during his service.

Working for over 40 years as a truck driver, Willie worked with a couple of companies before starting and operating his own business, A-Boom Services. He was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church.

From his time on the road, Willie became a living road map. Willie’s sense of direction was unparalleled, and he could know your precise location simply by providing him with a mile marker number. He knew roads like the back of his hand and refused to ever use a GPS. It simply was not needed.

A master story teller, Willie had a photographic memory and could retain any joke that he heard. Placing his own twist on the stories, he could captivate those listening and keep them in stitches. In earlier years, Willie spent his leisure time hunting and fishing. In later years, golf was his game of choice and you could often find him on the golf course or playing cards. More often than anything, if you wanted to find Willie, all you had to do was look on his front porch. There is nothing he loved doing better than sitting on the porch and listening to the sounds of nature. An avid Wolfpack fan, Willie cheered them on, regardless of the season they were having. He was most proud of his pack this year, though, as they made it all the way to the final four.

Mowing grass was never a chore for Willie, and he kept his yard in pristine condition. Always caring for others, he often cut grass for his neighbors as well if they were unable to care for their own yards. He was extremely generous, always giving, and had a heart for those in need. Willie’s greatest love was for his family. With his wife, Rose, the two enjoyed retirement by traveling cross country on their RV, and also enjoyed a trip to Alaska where they returned to where he was stationed during his military service. Time at their home away from home at Goose Creek Resort was always a pleasure, especially if his extended family was there with them. He was proud of each of his children and grandchildren, and made sure to stay involved in their lives.

A celebration of life will be held at Hull Road Original Free Will Baptist Church in Arba on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastors Percy Cunningham and Johnny Wiggins officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the Family Life Center. A private committal for the family will be held at East Carolina Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Willie is survived by his loving wife, Rose Clark Moore; children, Stacy White and husband, Jason, Will Moore, Jr. and wife, Jaime, and Ryan Moore and wife, Carole; grandchildren, Noah White, Luke White, Max Moore, Claire Moore, and Chesleigh Moore; sisters, Joyce Taylor and Donna Grady and husband, William; brothers-in-law, Randall Clark and Vernon Clark; along with numerous nieces, nephews, lifelong friends, and extended family.
