Obituary: Melba Gentry Alcock Ingles

Melba Gentry Alcock Ingles, 94, of Kinston, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Ingles; son, Gary Hines; parents, Ray Alcock and Ellen Rouse Alcock; and siblings, Mildred Harper, Ray N. Alcock, and Steve Alcock.

Melba loved her family and loved to crochet. Any visitors to her house would always leave with a new crocheted kitchen towel and a jar of homemade jelly. She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #53, where she earned her 50-year pin.

She is survived by her daughters, Jacqueline “Jackie” H. Seymour of Dover and Connie I. Richter Ferguson of Deep Run; son, Alan Hines of Kinston; stepson, David Ingles of Washington; grandchildren, Michael Noble, Sr., Kelly Bennett, Steven Hines, Heather Montoya, Travis Seymour, Kelli Ferguson, and Harlee Ferguson; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many other close family members and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at 3HC and Melba’s special friend and caretaker, Jeanne White, for all of their love and kindness shown.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Allen Ham officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
