Case Update: KPD obtains warrants in connection with Anzaryia Cobb murder
Case Update
The Kinston Police Department has obtained arrest warrants for Thomas Mason (30) and Davon Williams (24), both of Kinston, in connection with the murder of Anzaryia Cobb on August 25, 2024.
On the morning of August 27, 2024, the Kinston Police Department’s SWAT team apprehended Thomas Mason at St. John’s Village Apartments. He was taken into custody without incident.
Later that evening, the SWAT team located and apprehended Davon Williams at his residence on S. Herritage Street, also without incident.
Neither of the suspects lived in the apartment complex. Both individuals have been placed in the Lenoir County Jail and are facing the following charges:

Accessory After the Fact (5 counts)
Felony Conspiracy (5 counts)
Felony Probation Violation
Davon Williams:
First Degree Murder
Attempted First Degree Murder
Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill
Discharging a Firearm Within the City

Kinston, NC — The Kinston Police Department is currently investigating a homicide that occurred on the evening of Sunday, August 25th, 2024. At approximately 9:13 PM, Kinston Police Officers responded to a report of a person being shot near the 8 building of Mitchell Wooten Apartments, located in Kinston, North Carolina.
Upon arrival, officers discovered 22-year-old Anzaryia Cobb of Kinston suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency services were immediately summoned, and Ms. Cobb was in the process of being transported to ECU Health Medical Center when she succumbed to her injuries.
The Kinston Police Department has launched a full investigation into the incident. At this time, the investigation is in its early stages, and officers are diligently following up on leads. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any information that may assist in the investigation.
