On July 2, 2024, KPD and Kinston Department of Fire and Rescue were dispatched to a residential structure fire at 629 E Washington Avenue., Kinston. Evidence found at the scene indicated that the fire was deliberately set. Investigators from the North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI) and the Kinston Police Department (KPD) responded to the incident for further investigation.

Kinston Police Department's Investigations obtained felony warrants for Robert McNeil Jr for Arson.
