Obituary: Richard “Dale” Cahoon

Richard “Dale” Cahoon, 72, of Kinston passed away Monday, September 23, 2024.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 2PM, at 4088 Falling Creek Road, La Grange.

Dale was born and raised in Kinston, where he served his community in law enforcement. During his 20-year career he worked as a Kinston Police Officer, a Detective, and a Juvenile Officer. Dale's impact on young lives was profound, with many juveniles returning later in their life to thank him for his guidance and compassion.

After retiring from law enforcement, Dale continued to work at City Auto, where he spent more than he made but enjoyed every minute. Dale was an active figure in his neighborhood, taking on the role of the self-appointed neighborhood watch leader. He would sit out on the front porch waving at the neighbors and observing any activity going on. His neighbors would always say that they felt safer knowing that Dale was there.

Dale had a love for gatherings and good food, especially enjoying cookouts with family and friends. Whether it was BBQ or fish stew, he was always eager to enjoy a good meal and share laughter with those he cared about.

Dale is survived by his wife, Lori Schwartz Cahoon; sons, Christopher Dale Cahoon and wife Kristie, Todd Austin Cahoon and wife Ashley; grandchildren, Hannah and husband Justin, Kaylie, Jaiden, Blake, Wyatt, Trinity, Taegan, Deucie; brothers, Phillip Stephen Cahoon, Lynwood Allen Cahoon and wife Carol; sister, Amelia Ann; sister-in-law, Jenny Cahoon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Henry Jesse and Eva Rae, Cahoon Dale is preceded in death by his brothers, Emmett Lee “Skipper” Cahoon and Leslie Wayne “Frog” Cahoon.
