A car chase that started in Lenoir County resulted in the arrest of three suspects after they crashed their vehicle in Wayne County when they attempted to take an exit at more than 100 miles per hour.

The names of the suspects and more details of the chase will be released later this afternoon.

A Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reduction Team (CRT) sergeant stopped a 2021 Toyota Camry earlier this morning on U.S. 70 West in Lenoir County. When the sergeant walked up to the vehicle, it sped away. A chase started and continued into Wayne County, where it was assisted by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the State Highway Patrol and the Goldsboro Police Department.

It ended in Goldsboro at the Berkeley Boulevard exit off U.S. 70 when the driver attempted to take the exit at more than 100 miles per hour. The vehicle struck several objects and overturned.

The driver attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by two LCSO deputies. The passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody without incident. The third suspect, who was pinned in the back seat, was extricated by the Goldsboro Fire Department.

All three suspects were wearing ski masks and rubber gloves. A LCSO investigation revealed the suspects had stolen the vehicle from New Bern.
