Goldsboro teen arrested after stealing laptop, tossing it in pool
An 18-year-old is behind bars after breaking into a vehicle with a flat tire, stealing a laptop and then throwing it into a swimming pool in Goldsboro in an attempt to conceal his crime.
On Sunday, a driver suffered a flat tire on his vehicle on N.C. 55 West near the N.C. 903 intersection. He told Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies that when he returned later to retrieve his vehicle, he found the driver’s side window was broken.
The owner of the vehicle called the LCSO on Monday to report his Apple MacBook Air laptop computer and other items had been stolen from the vehicle; however, he was able to provide deputies a possible location for the computer. Deputies contacted the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and asked for their assistance in locating the laptop.
WCSO searched a Slick Rock Road residence in Goldsboro and located the laptop in a swimming pool where Logan Mosez Garcia had thrown it in an attempt to destroy and conceal evidence. WCSO arrested Garcia and transported him to Lenoir County, where he was turned over to LCSO deputies.
Garcia was charged with the following crimes by the LCSO:
· One count of felony breaking and/or entering a motor vehicle
· Two counts of injury to personal property
· One count of misdemeanor larceny
WCSO deputies also charged Garcia with:
· One count felony destruction of evidence
· One count felony possession of stolen goods and/or property
· One count resisting a public officer
· One count misdemeanor computer trespass
Garcia was placed in the Lenoir County Jail with no bond due to being on pretrial release. The stolen property was recovered and returned to the owner.
