Lenoir County EMS wins Battle of the Badges blood drive challenge
In a remarkable display of community spirit and teamwork, the Lenoir County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) clinched the top spot at the Battle of the Badges, an initiative organized by Greene Lamp’s 9/11 Day of Service Program on 1/30/25. This competition, designed to tackle local blood shortages, also aimed to unite residents in a collective effort for a vital cause.
During the Christmas season, Greene Lamp collaborated with the American Red Cross to orchestrate the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive at the Holloway Recreation Center in Kinston. The event brought together first responders and residents in a spirited contest to collect the maximum number of blood donations.
Sharonda Graham, Assistant Director of Senior & Volunteer Services Program, lauded the event's success saying, "We are incredibly proud of our local heroes and the community for coming together to support this important cause."
Thanks to the unwavering dedication of Lenoir County’s first responders and enthusiastic community participation, the blood drive not only achieved but exceeded its initial target by gathering 25 donations, against the goal of 16. Looking ahead, the Day of Service Program plans to extend its efforts to Pitt County, aiming for even greater engagement and results in future blood drives.
Zenaida Bryant, Program Specialist of the 9/11 Day of Service Program, reflected on the event’s success, expressing she was "filled with immense pride and gratitude," inspired to pursue larger initiatives to benefit the community. The Battle of the Badges not only helps increase blood donations but also fosters a sense of camaraderie among first responders.
