Book Sale and Other Upcoming Programming at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library

The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library has several exciting upcoming events that will take place in the next few months. August will begin with our latest semi-annual Book Sale, which will run from Wednesday, August 9 until Saturday, August 12 in the Schechter Auditorium of the Library. The sale will begin at 9:00 a.m. each day and run until 5:00 p.m. We will have a variety of things on sale, including books, audiobooks, magazines, and DVDs for readers of all ages. If you have not yet gotten a chance to participate in this year’s Adult Summer Reading Program (ASRP) it isn’t too late! ASRP: Connecting with the Past will continue until Thursday, August 17! We will have our final in-person Book Discussion on Thursday, August 17 at 6:30 p.m. in our Brody Conference Room, and it will be centered on the novel This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub, one of this year’s Community Reads selections. Amber Hargett, the phenomenal leader of our Book Talking book club, will lead the discussion. If you have not yet submitted completed activities to earn tickets for our Gift Basket Drawing, you must do so before the end of the day on August 17 to receive the allotted tickets. The winners for our Gift Basket Drawing will be drawn on Wednesday, August 30. Stop by the Information Services desk to register and participate today and to request a copy of our Book Discussion selection.
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we have also planned a series of awesome adult programs forSeptember! Our first program in this series will beLatin Dancing. Sharon Veitch, a longtime collaborator with Neuse Regional Libraries, will return to our library on Monday, September 11 at 6:30 p.m. to offer a beginner’s class on a medley of Latin American dances. Sharon Veitch is the owner of Academy Street Ballroom in Richlands, N.C., and is a seasoned national dance competitor and instructor. Attendance to this program is free of charge, but registration is encouraged; make sure to call 252.527.7066 ext. 134 to register for a spot.
If you’re a big fan of flamenco music, we are also excited to announce that we plan to welcome world-famous musician Alex Gordez to our library in the month of September. “A Night with Alex Gordez” will take place on Thursday, September 28 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and it will feature live performances of original flamenco compositions written and performed by Mr. Gordez. Alex is a classically trained music instructor, songwriter and performer stationed in Raleigh, N.C., with more than thirty years of teaching and live performance experience. This concert is free to the public, and we invite any and all to attend.
