Public Notice: Upset Bid Notice for Teachers Memorial School

Pursuant to G.S. 115C-518 and 160A-269, the Lenoir County Board of Education hereby gives notice that it has received an offer to purchase the Teacher’s Memorial School property owned by the Lenoir County Board of Education.  The property’s street address is 500 Marcella Drive Kinston, NC 28501. The offer to purchase is in the amount of One Hundred Fifty-One Thousand Dollars ($151,000.00). Notice is hereby given that prior to September 28, 2023, at 4:00 PM, any person may raise the bid by not less than ten percent (10%) of the first one thousand dollars ($1000) and five percent (5%) of the remainder ($150,000). Therefore, the lowest acceptable upset bid is One Hundred Fifty-Eight Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($158,600.00).

NCDHHS Connects Children and Adults to Healthy Food Through the Child and Adult Care Food Program

The Child and Adult Care Food Program helps eligible children and adults access healthy, nutritious food by reimbursing qualified child care programs, adult day programs and other non-residential care programs for meals and snacks served to enrollees. CACFP is administered federally by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and at the state level by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

UNC Health Lenoir recognizes latest Hall of Honor inductees on Saturday, September 9th at Kinston Country Club.

Established in 2000, the Hall of Honor is designed to recognize individuals whose contribution to hospital care in Lenoir County makes them remarkable in some way.  Including this year’s class, 124 outstanding citizens have been inducted into the UNC Health Lenoir Hall of Honor, and 2023 marks the 117th year of hospital care for our community. Seven deserving individuals were inducted in the morning ceremony.

Active Kinston fire closes streets

At 7:20 Saturday morning, Lenoir County 911 received a call reporting smoke coming from a home at 715 W. Washington St in Kinston. Fire department personnel arrived on scene to find active fire conditions. Crews are still working to bring the fire under control. W. Washington Avenue and Dewey Street are closed to all traffic until further notice.

Sheriff Jackie Rogers announces arrest of La Grange murder suspect

According to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, a Wallace man has been arrested for the murder of Anthony Harris of La Grange. “I would like to acknowledge the hard work by our investigators in this case,” Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers said. “They worked around the clock to make sure we caught the person who committed this crime. The residents of Lenoir County are lucky to have such dedicated public servants protecting them.”

Obituary - George Saxon Parrott

Morehead City – George Saxon Parrott, 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC. A graveside service will be conducted Sunday at 2 pm at Westview Cemetery with Kermit Braswell officiating.
