The American Legion Post 43 held a shopping spree fundraising event at Piggly Wiggly. This event replaced the semi-annual BBQ chicken plate sales in the hopes of getting the attention of a younger crowd.

A drawing was held two weeks ago at Piggly Wiggly and the winner was Keith Thompson. He appointed Janet Kennedy as the shopper. Items were limited to two of each kind. In three minutes, Kennedy shopped for $625.19 in items. The successful fundraiser garnished the American Legion approximately $3400 in ticket donations.

The American Legion is the nation's largest wartime veterans service organization aimed at advocating patriotism across the U.S. through diverse programs. American Legion membership is open to anyone who has worn a military uniform and has received an honorable discharge, regardless of time period.
