The American Legion Post 43 held a shopping spree fundraising event at Piggly Wiggly. This event replaced the semi-annual BBQ chicken plate sales in the hopes of getting the attention of a younger crowd.

A drawing was held two weeks ago at Piggly Wiggly and the winner was Keith Thompson. He appointed Janet Kennedy as the shopper. Items were limited to two of each kind. In three minutes, Kennedy shopped for $625.19 in items. The successful fundraiser garnished the American Legion approximately $3400 in ticket donations.

This is going to be one of many shopping spree fundraisers,” said Donna R. Ramsey, American Legion Post 43 Commander. “Other organizations interested in partnering with the American Legion should contact us directly.” Ramsey’s cell phone is (252) 286-3223.

The American Legion is the nation's largest wartime veterans service organization aimed at advocating patriotism across the U.S. through diverse programs. American Legion membership is open to anyone who has worn a military uniform and has received an honorable discharge, regardless of time period.
