Kinston's Salvation Army awarded funds for hurricane relief
The Salvation Army of Kinston has been awarded $112,500 from the N.C. Hurricane Florence Relief Fund.
They will collaborate with local partners to address unmet needs of Hurricane Florence victims in Lenoir, Greene, and Duplin Counties.
The Salvation Army of Kinston will provide replacement furniture, appliances, and household items for flood victims.
“Any time families are dealing with floods, there’s very little funding when it comes to replacing things such as furniture and appliances,” Salvation Army Captain Chris Lyles said. “When we’re able to get this money, if the family is approved through the application process, we’ll do our best to assist them in the aspect of getting those household needs.”
N.C. Rep. John Bell said in a statement Monday “this is welcome news for flood victims in Lenoir, Greene, and Duplin counties. These resources will go a long way in helping folks recover and rebuild. Thank you to Golden LEAF for getting these much-needed resources out quickly and efficiently to those in need and the Salvation Army of Kinston for their continued support of our local communities. It is through cooperation and assistance like this that we will rebuild and come back stronger in Eastern North Carolina.”
