BREAKING: Friday afternoon shooting sends one to hospital

On Oct. 12, 2018 Officers responded to a call of shots fired at W Caswell St near N Herritage St. Kinston Police Officers along with Lenoir County Sheriff Deputies were in the area and were able to locate a crime scene.
Officers were quickly able to determine that two vehicles were involved in the shooting incident. Lenoir County Deputies were able to stop a silver in color Chrysler 300 occupied by Jeffrey Donell Sutton (DOB: 10/03/1976) and Jeffery Donell Sutton Jr. (DOB: 05/19/1997).
A second vehicle was located at UNC Lenoir where a victim of the shooting had been transported for a possible gunshot wound. Further investigation into the incident lead to the arrest of Jeffery Donell Sutton Jr. for two counts of Attempted Murder, and Discharge of Firearm Into an Occupied Vehicle. He was placed in the Lenoir County Jail under a $1,000,000 secure bond.
Jeffrey Donnell Sutton was charged with two counts of Attempted Murder, and Discharge of Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle, and Possession of Firearm by Felon. He was placed in the Lenoir County Jail under a $1,200,000 secure bond. The investigation revealed that the suspects and victims were familiar with each other and this was not a random act of violence.

Chief Alonzo Jaynes with the Kinston Police Department has confirmed a shooting took place in a parking lot adjacent to Herritage, Caswell and Gordon Streets in Kinston late Friday afternoon.
“Right now, I can tell you we responded to a person with a gunshot wound at UNC Lenoir (Hospital)”, Chief Jaynes said.
