Walmart helping stuff the bus for Lenoir County students

Walmart is Kinston is hosting a stuff-the-bus event with Lenoir County Public Schools on Saturday to collect donated school supplies in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.

Donations will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the school bus parked near the entrances of the Walmart store on West Vernon Avenue.

“LCPS, its teachers and students appreciate the efforts of the staff at Kinston’s Walmart in organizing this event,” Patrick Holmes, the school district’s public information officer, said. “School supplies are needed throughout the year and the need may be more acute now with students coming back to school after a long layoff imposed by Hurricane Florence.”

According to Holmes, the district most needs basic school supplies – notebook paper, three-ring binders, spiral notebooks, No. 2 pencils, blue or black pens, highlighters, 24-count boxes of crayons, blunt tipped scissors and glue sticks. Book bags are always appreciated, he said, and classrooms can benefit from the donation of boxes of tissue, bottles of hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes.
