Richard Bogan joins LCPS school board

Richard Bogan is the new member of the Lenoir County school board.

In Thursday’s meeting, Bogan received the nomination by a majority vote to take the vacant position of District 3. Bogan, who was the president of the Northwest Elementary PTA for three years, said he wants to keep the strong movement of the LCPS.

“I want to help continue the momentum the school board has created,” Bogan said. “I’m truly humbled by the vote and I hope I can help continue the success here.”

LCPS information officer Patrick Holmes said after an extensive process, Bogan was brought along and will be a strong addition to the group.

“He thought they were doing a good job and he wanted to be a part of the improvement process,” Holmes said. “He was very involved with the PTA with Northwest, so that gave him some insight into how public schools worked, he has three children in public schools and has an exchange student he hosts every year in the system. He’s really plugged into the schools and after getting a taste, he really wants to be a public servant.”

LCPS Superintendent Brent Williams said the school board couldn’t go wrong with any of the candidates and was excited about Bogan joining.

“I was excited about all the candidates,” Williams said. “All of them had a wealth of experience, skills and insight to bring to the table and I think Mr. Bogan was a good choice. I look forward to working with him.”
