Kinston girls' basketball jamboree set for Saturday

The sixth annual Kinston Jamboree is set for Saturday in three locations.

There will be several girls’ basketball scrimmages at Kinston High School, Rochelle Middle School and Teachers Memorial with a litany of teams prepped for the occasion. Six of the seven schools in the Eastern Carolina Conference will be in attendance, along with strong teams such as Raleigh Millbrook, Apex Middle Creek, St. Paul’s and East Duplin.

Vikings head coach Christopher Bradshaw said the tournament is helpful for numerous reasons.

“There’s going to be good girls’ basketball played in Kinston,” Bradshaw said. “Not only will it be a good way to see the 2018-19 Kinston basketball team, but also other teams in our area. Then, you have some quality kids in other areas with great abilities.”

The event will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Kinston High School, 9 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. at Martin C. Freeman Gymnasium and 9 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. at Rochelle. Bradshaw said he’s liked how the Vikings have looked early, as the team tries to follow up a 29-2 season, including a perfect Eastern Carolina Conference record and a trip to the 2A Eastern Regionals.

“We had a good showing in the Havelock tournament (last week) and we need to work on a couple of things, but we should be alright heading into our game Tuesday (against West Carteret),” Bradshaw said.
