LCPS: Nine things to know about the 2018-2019 budget

On July 2, the Lenoir County School Board unanimously approved the 2018-19 Lenoir County Public Schools budget. The total budget for the year is $90,842,139, 1 percent more than the previous year's budget.

1. The total approved budget is $90,842,139, 1 percent more than the 2017-18 budget

2. State appropriations for the budget were $56,808,253 or 62.5 percent

3. Lenoir County appropriations were $10 million (11 percent); the total local appropriations (which include the above-mentioned county numbers) were $11,235,000 (12.4 percent)

4. Federal grant funds towards the budget were $10,844,638 or 11.9 percent

5. Local capital outlay, which includes the ½-cent sales tax, is $2,097,430 or 2.3 percent

6. School fund service funds, which includes USDA, is $5,270,000 or 5.8 percent

7. The trust fund budget is $1,030,667, of which the Broome-Hill scholarship ($611,147) is the largest part

8. LCPS will receive $750,000 from North Carolina Educational Lottery funds

9. $870,000 will come from appropriated fund balance
