Lenoir County to be held under curfew starting Friday

Lenoir County will operate under a curfew for the duration of Hurricane Florence.

The curfew will take place from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., starting Friday, until it is rescinded by Lenoir County Chairman Craig Hill. Lenoir County Sheriff's Office Maj. Ryan Dawson said deteriorating weather conditions and the potential of flash flooding provoked the decision.

“The reason we’re doing this is because of the safety concerns for our citizens,”  Dawson said. “There is also a lot of debris still on the roadways and the rain is expected to last until tomorrow. We don’t want to compromise the safety of our citizens when we can just ask you to stay home with this curfew.”

Businesses in the county are not being forced to close because of the curfew.
