An overturned fuel tanker on Hwy 70 has blocked the roadway.

Ryan Mills of Jones County EMS said the area will be shut down for an extended period of time.

“Approximately 200 gallons of fuel spilled out onto the road,” Mills said. “State rescuers are assisting now and we don't know how long it will take to open back up.”

The driver was taken to UNC Lenoir Health Care with minor injuries.

Kinston resident Angela Smith was traveling to New Bern when she saw the truck flip around 7:30 this morning.

“I think the driver caught some mud on the shoulder and overcorrected himself,” Smith said. “It was raining hard and he wasn't speeding (when it happened). I called 911 and stayed in the car until they got there as several drivers behind me stopped and got out of their vehicles to see how the (truck driver) was doing.”
