Kinston is offering discounts on daily prescription medicine costs.
On Tuesday, Kinston Mayor Don Hardy announced the city’s participation in the National League of Cities’ “My Healthy Hometown” prescription discount program, which will be available to all residents of the city. By showing the “My Healthy Hometown” prescription discount card at a participating retail pharmacy, a Kinstonian can save an average of 24 percent off the initial price, whether they’re insured or not.
“Millions of Americans have experienced high costs at the pharmacy and City of Kinston residents are no exception,” Hardy said. “Just like with anything else we buy today, we must also be savvy consumers when buying our prescription medicine which is why we are very happy to offer our residents the NLC ‘My Healthy Hometown’ prescription discount card. The card is a great help for all city residents and their families to find some relief at the pharmacy counter and stay healthy right here in Kinston.”
Clearance E. Anthony, CEO and executive director of the NLC, shared similar sentiments.
“We are pleased to partner with the City of Kinston to help the residents access prescriptions at a significantly reduced cost,” Anthony said. “Since 2009, the NLC Prescription Discount program has saved city residents more than $50 million, averaging a 24 percent discount on retail prescriptions. We’re proud to extend those savings to the people of the City of Kinston.”
Residents can obtain their free cards, the Kinston Community Center, Kinston Public Services, recreation facilities and some local pharmacies. Cards can also be downloaded online at nlc.org/resident-discount or calling 1-888-620-1749.
