The seniors of Jones Senior will be recognized in an event with several positive qualities.
There will be a Powder Puff football game on Friday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. at Jones Senior. Although the school’s football season was recently cancelled, coaches and players are working toward this game for the girls at the school. Trojans football coach Tyler Hale said there will be a process toward selecting teams, but there’s already been quite a bit of interest.
“Tryouts are Monday and they’re available for any girl interested in playing,” Hale said. “We’ve already got about 30 girls signed up and on Monday we’ll have tryouts. Our seniors will coach the teams and on Tuesday they’ll have a draft to split the teams, and then they’ll have several practices before the game.”
Admission is $2 and there will be concessions sold at the game, along with T-shirts. Hale said half of the proceeds will go toward athletics at Jones Senior while the other half will go toward a breast cancer awareness organization.
“During halftime of the game, we plan to recognize cancer survivors in the audience,” Hale said.
The seniors of the Jones Senior football team will also be honored during the event, and the underclassmen will showcase their dancing abilities.
“As the seniors coach the girls to get them ready for the game, some of the other players will meet up with the cheerleading coach to learn routines,” Hale said. “We’re pretty much switching roles in this game, and we’re hoping everyone comes out to this game.”
