The annual Lenoir County Emergency Services banquet was held Wednesday at the Kinston Community Center. 9. Rabid fox found in Lenoir County
The Lenoir County Health Department received confirmation from the North Carolina State Laboratory this week that a fox has tested positive for rabies. Animal Control was contacted when a dog was attacked by the fox. The dog was placed into quarantine, but the fox could not initially be found. Through the help of watchful neighbors who alerted Animal Control that the fox was back in the neighborhood, the animal was captured within 24 hours of the attack. The fox was located just north of Pink Hill.
8. LCPS: Calendar approved for next school year to give students earlier start to summer
LCPS students going to school according to the 2019-2020 traditional calendar recently approved by the Lenoir County Board of Education won’t see many changes from the calendar they’re following this year – except that the last day of school arrives more than a week earlier in May.
7. Collision with driver, KPD vehicle occurred off MLK Blvd.
A collision between a driver of a Geo Prism and a Kinston Police Department vehicle happened around 2:48 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. and Washington Ave.

5. Keys to the City given away at the BBQ Fest
Seven Kinston residents were honored during the BBQ Festival on the Neuse Friday evening, receiving the city’s top honor from Mayor Don Hardy. Hardy presented a Golden Key to the City to Geraldyne Barbour, Nicole Moore, Jackie Elmore, Kenyari Fields, Eric Cantu, Tekeema Parson and Chris Suggs.

The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department: Wendy’s, King’s, The Boiler Room, Baron and The Beef, Golden Corral, Falling Creek Service Center, and Waffle House.
3. UPDATED: Thursday shooting kills one, injures another in Kinston
The Kinston Police Department announced late Thursday evening that they have obtained a warrant for the arrest of Dantravelle Shackleford, 23, of Kinston in connection with the shooting Thursday afternoon on Orion St. Shackleford is wanted for Murder, Attempted Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
2. Lidl is leaving Kinston
Lidl opened its doors in Kinston in June 2017 but will be closing this summer. According to a report on the Winsight Grocery Business website, the Kinston Lidl will close. A sign on Lidl’s door indicates they’ll close next week.
1. Lenoir County Sheriff's Office arrest man in Pink Hill shooting
An arrest was made in Monday’s shooting in Pink Hill. Lenoir County Sheriffs Office personnel arrested Javier Lara of Pink Hill in relation to the incident, which occurred on Old Pink Hill Road. Lara was taken into custody on a traffic stop in Lenoir County Wednesday afternoon without incident. Lara was charged with attempted murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon. Lara will also be served with warrants for previous charges including assault on a female, communicating threats and battery of an unborn child.
