9. Lenoir County restaurant inspections for Aug. 7-26

The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department: Dos Marias Grill & Cantina, Taqueria El Merendero, Little J’s Pizza, Thee Coffeehouse, Subway, Jin Jin Chinese Restaurant, Lovick’s Cafe, Murray’s, Hibachi Express, The Country Store and Waffle House.

7. Wreck involving motorcycle near Ruby Tuesday

According to a statement by the Kinston Police Department, at 12:45 pm today, KPD, Kinston Fire & Rescue, and Lenoir County EMS responded to a motor vehicle crash on the 3700 block of W. Vernon Ave. involving a car and a motorcycle. The initial investigation reveals that a 2003 Oldsmobile passenger car driven by a 19-year-old man from Dover was traveling east on Hwy 70 and attempted to make a left hand turn across the westbound traffic flow. The motorcycle, operated by a 58-year-old man from Kinston, was traveling in the outermost westbound lane on Hwy 70.

The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department: East Coast Wings, The Peach House, The Laughing Owl, Stacie's Grill, Golden Corral, New Main Moon, Bojangles and Skill Creations of Kinston.

5. Hurricane Dorian: Latest from the National Weather Service

UPDATED 9-5-2019 5:00 AM. According to the National Weather Service, Hurricane Dorian is located at 31.7N 79.5W, which is about 80 miles SSE of Charleston, SC and about 200 miles SSW of Wilmington, NC. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 115 mph and is moving N at 8 mph. The minimum central pressure is 957 mb / 28.26 inches.

4. Lenoir County Commissioners unanimously agree to bypass route

There wasn’t an issue about which route to support in terms of the U.S. 70 Bypass. A unanimous decision was made in Monday’s Lenoir County Commissioner Meeting on going with the Alternative 1SB route, one where the projected bypass allows closer proximity toward businesses on U.S. 70.

3. North Lenoir's Anna Hull, named 2020 Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County

The Distinguished Young Women of Lenoir County program proudly presented Conner Craft, Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County for 2019, in its annual program which was held at on Saturday, September 21 in the Kinston High School Performing Arts Center, where North Lenoir’s Anna Hull was named the 2020 Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County.

1. Five-car accident on Hwy 11 backs up traffic Friday

A five-car accident near Skinner’s Bypass in Kinston caused traffic backups and diverted traffic on Highway 11 Friday afternoon. According to Trooper Heath of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the elderly driver of a white Chevy S10 pickup was traveling northbound on Highway 11, just south of Highway 70, when he ran off the right side of the road. Heath said following that, the driver failed to reduce speed and struck a white Ford Fusion, setting off a chain reaction that ultimately involved three other vehicles that were waiting at the traffic light.
