10. Kinston Police: Help needed to identify hit and run suspect

The Kinston Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in helping to identify the subject seen in the attached photo. The subject in question was involved in a Hit & Run that caused damage to another vehicle at Walmart.

9. Thigpen named next superintendent of Jones County Schools

The Jones County Board of Education announced Monday evening that Ben Thigpen is the new superintendent of Jones County Schools. An educator and administrator in the Duplin County School System for the past 30 years, Thigpen will take office on Jan. 2, 2020. He succeeds Dr. Michael Bracy, who plans to retire in December.

8. New faces win local elections

Some new faces will be a part of local government, as Tuesday’s municipal elections saw several challengers win seats in Greene and Lenoir Counties.

7. Kinston Police issue Missing Person Alert

The Kinston Police Department issued a call for help in searching for a missing person who left a group home shortly before 3:00 pm today. Tyrone Evans, 55 years of age, currently resides in Kinston but has lived in Durham, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

6. Lenoir County restaurant ratings

The following inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department: Lenoir County Shrine Club, Golden China Buffet, Sandpiper Seafood and Smith’s Cafe.

5. Sheriff's Office seeks public's help

According to a press release from the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, on Oct. 27, 2019, the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office responded to Hickory Nut Street in La Grange to a burglary call. Deputies discovered that an unknown suspect had broken into the residence of an 83-year male victim and had severely assaulted the victim causing life-threatening injuries and stole his vehicle.

4. LCC student gets first professional theatre role

Lenoir Community College student Makayla Jarman of La Grange is taking to the stage at the Wilson Center in Wilmington in Mr. Holland’s Opus in April. She is in the ensemble/youth company, her first professional paid performance.

3. Lenoir Community Commissioner Reuben Davis passes at 85

Lenoir County lost a leader and true legend Thursday morning. County Commissioner Reuben Davis passed away after a long battle with injuries he suffered in a multiple-car accident in mid-September. He was 85.

2. Seventeen-year-old opens a new discount outlet in Kinston

There is a new entrepreneur in Kinston, and he’s seventeen years old. Shane Swindell, along with the help of his family, is opening a new business in the old K-Mart building on N. Queen Street in Kinston. Shane’s Discount Outlet will have its grand opening on Saturday, November 23rd at 9 a.m. He’s working hard to provide the community with a discount outlet store.

1. Frink Middle School counselor dies in car accident Wednesday

Students and faculty at E.B. Frink Middle School mourned the passing of a beloved colleague, coach and friend on Thursday. Casey Lewis, a second-year guidance counselor and head volleyball coach, died Wednesday afternoon in a car accident.
