Senator Perry to take oath of office Thursday

The new state senator for District 7 will take his ceremonial oath of office on February 7th at the Maxwell Regional Agriculture and Convention Center in Goldsboro. Senator Jim Perry was chosen by Republicans to serve the remainder of Senator Louis Pate’s term in office after Pate retired due to health issues.

North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby will administer the oath of office for Perry Thursday evening. Doors open for the event at 4:30 P.M., and the oath will be conducted at 5:30 P.M. Hors d’oeuvres and non alcoholic refreshments will be provided.

Perry said in a press release that he chose the Maxwell Regional Agriculture and Convention center because “agriculture and agribusiness power the North Carolina economy.

They are important to all of North Carolina, but they are especially so to those of us located east of Interstate 95. We must help others understand the importance of that $84 billion impact on our economy.”

Perry also spoke highly of Justice Newby, saying “We are honored to have Justice Newby join us. I know some people will just come to get to see him - and I understand. I told Representative Bell that is why I am going too! I am kidding, but he really is a gracious person, and we are so thankful for him.”
