Thomas resigns as GTP director to concentrate on run for Congress
Monday marked the last day with Allen Thomas at the helm as executive director of the N.C. Global TransPark.
In a press release, Thomas announced he’s stepping down to dedicate his energy to running for the U.S. House. Thomas, the former mayor of Greenville, is one of several politicians vying for the Democratic nomination for the late Walter B. Jones’ seat.
Thomas said he is proud of his tenure at the GTP and also proud that 1,515 families across 21 counties in Eastern North Carolina work at the GTP.
“It has been an honor to work with many great companies and our branches of the military, with federal, state & local officials all working simultaneously to bring opportunity to ENC,” Thomas stated in the press release.
He said his tenure included more than $72 million in new investments this year in aerospace, logistics, government services and advance manufacturing. Additionally, Thomas said new companies, new jobs and new buildings are under construction.
“I’m proud of N.C. Global TransPark's progress and I’m excited about what’s on its’ horizon,” Thomas said. “It’s a true testament to what we can do when we put other things aside and work together as a region.”
