40 Days of Lent Journal: Day 3
Day 3
The Great Commandment
Matthew 22:36-37 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law? And He said to him, " 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' This is the great and foremost commandment.
Why do we love God? 1 John 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.
How do we love God? John 14:15 If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
The love that God has is not only for His people but also works through them, producing a responsive love toward Him and toward others. Let us look at our life today and take inventory of how well we keep God’s commandments. Keeping His commandments is a certain way to show that we love God. We should reciprocate His love for us. God gets all the glory when we submit everything to Him. Loving God and sharing His love glorifies Him. During this season, find ways to glorify Him. Not boasting about any sacrifices made but pure enjoyment in showing and sharing God’s love with those around us.
Father, in the name of your precious Son, Jesus. Thank you for your undying love for us. Forgive us for missing opportunities to be a witness of your love. Help us to look to you for guidance to love those who don’t love us. Help us be vigilant in loving our family, friends, and those we don’t know. Allow your love to magnify so others will see “Hope, Help and the Heart of God”. Amen
