Around Town: Scouts and VFW honor deceased veterans

Around Town: Scouts and VFW honor deceased veterans

Saturday morning approximately 30 Scouts from the Cub Scout Pack 114 and Girl Scout Troop 4186 in La Grange, NC  joined forces with members of the local VFW to honor deceased veterans by placing flags at the Fairview Cemetery in La Grange.

This service project provided a hands on way to teach our youth about all of the different wars in which our Veterans have fought for the freedoms that we enjoy today and serves as a reminder of the true meaning of Memorial Day. It was sweltering work, but the Scouts were happy to honor those who have given our country so much. They worked together to honor over 300 veterans buried in the cemetery.

Wolf Scout Laith Ginn said that he enjoyed photographing members of his pack as well as his sister’s Girl Scout Troop placing the flags. Junior Scout Masarra Ginn enjoyed the scavenger hunt aspect where she got to use her detective skills to identify which graves should be marked.

Cub Scout Pack 114 is led by Freddie Small. Girl Scout Troop 4186 is led by Tracy Ginn. The VFW was represented by Mr. John Klink.
