After steamrolling its first five opponents by 17 points or more Thursday and Friday, Kinston stumbled in a 63-60 loss to West Carteret.  The Vikings rebounded with a 57-39 victory over Wilmington Laney to grab the second seed in its pool and qualify for the tournament bracket, composed of 16 teams. There, the Vikings blew out East Duplin 67-46 before taking out the defending NCISAA 1A state champions in Wilson Greenfield 76-60 after a late surge.
