My name is Parker Mitchell; I was born and raised right here in Kinston. I live with my mom, dad and little sister.
I have just graduated from North Lenoir High School and I plan on going to Lenoir Community College. I currently work at the Piggly Wiggly in Kinston on 258, where I bag groceries and stock the store. Although it is not my dream job, I have learned a lot from my experience and love the atmosphere around that place.
My long-term goal in life is to become a sports broadcaster and cover the star athletes of the NBA. My whole life I have never really known what I wanted to do for a career and I have gone back and forth between which career I want to pursue. I tried things that didn’t even interest me, but I just went with it because I couldn’t make my mind up.
Even now I’m still not entirely sure but recently, I have concluded I want to work in the news/broadcasting field. I have always had a huge interest in sports and never thought of pursuing a career that would revolve around that. However, after I started working with Neuse News and seeing the work Graham Hill and Junious Smith III were doing, it helped spark the idea of working in the news/broadcasting field, which before seemed almost impossible to me.
Neuse News has already taught me so much, such as the importance of building relationships with your customers, to having and knowing how to use the right equipment whenever necessary. In this internship I hope to learn more about some of the technology used at the studio, because coming into this I don’t have any experience with any other device besides my phone, computer and gaming console.
I am also looking forward to building relationships with everyone at Neuse News — we all get along so well already, and I enjoy every minute being with this group of people. I cannot wait to bond even more with all of these amazing people over the course of this summer.
A big thing I would also love to work on throughout the internship is becoming more comfortable in front of a camera; I have no problem with being the center of attention but there are a couple things I can point out about myself that would need some improving.
Lastly, I want to learn about the process behind everything that goes on around the office and all the teamwork that goes into developing a story. Although you never know what to expect when it comes to daily news, I hope by the end of this internship I know almost every aspect of what goes into each story put out by Neuse News.
I look forward to the experience of learning and growing with Neuse News over the summer and I can’t wait to help Neuse News put out the best content for all of you to see.
