Laieke Abebe recently joined the organization, continuing his work throughout Eastern North Carolina. Abebe, who was born in Silver Spring, Md., was raised in Greensboro and worked with companies such as FanSided and SBNation in 2016.

Since then, Abebe has written stories and taken pictures in a freelance position with The Free Press, the Washington Daily News and The Daily Reflector in Greenville, all while graduating from ECU in 2018.

Abebe has also worked with the high school sports organization “We Journal Great Sports,” and is a cohost of the “Just Like Bruddas” Podcast with WJG Sports founder Kai Jones.

Abebe said he’s ready to contribute to Neuse News and continue building his career.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity, and it’s a great way for me to get my name out there,” Abebe said. “I’m thankful for Junious (Smith III), B.J. (Murphy) and Bryan (Hanks) for bringing me in, and I’m happy to continue cover sports in the Lenoir County area. This is a great sports county, and I’m ready to get to work.”
