POW/MIA Remembrance Day to be held Sept. 20 at Neuseway Nature Center

The Vietnam Veterans of American and Veterans Organization of Lenoir County will have its annual POW/MIA Remembrance Day at the Neuseway Nature Center Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.

The guest speaker will be Robin Owen-McNeill, whose father is considered MIA from the Vietnam War.

“We have this event to remember those who committed the ultimate sacrifice, but their lives are still unaccounted for as American Patriots,” G.I. Joe’s Museum curator Eric Cantu said. “From N.C. alone, we have 38 unaccounted for, but there are roughly 1,600 MIA from the Vietnam War. At this event, we also remember everyone missing, from World War I to the present day.”

There will also be a “Big Bird” FlyIn event Saturday at 207 Airport Road for radio-control model airplanes. There is a $10 landing fee and pilots will be briefed at 9 a.m. There is a cooked lunch on-site and concessions are available. Lite campaign and leased pets are permitted.

For additional information, contact Cantu at 252-522-2327 or at cantuveteran@yahoo.com.
