Graham Hill: I'm back, Neuse News
Well, hello again, folks. I’m baaaack… at Neuse News.
As many of you might recall, this past May I wrote a farewell column sharing that I would be leaving Neuse News. At that time, I had the intention to focus more on my studies during my sophomore year at Pitt Community College.
This upcoming May, my goal is to graduate with an Associate’s degree and my plan is to transfer to a four-year institution and major in Communications. As much as I enjoyed working with Neuse News last year, I found there were times when preparing material for games and being a college student could be difficult. How I maintained a 3.25 GPA, I don’t know.
I included in my farewell column a quote from my favorite Netflix original series, “BoJack Horeseman”, and I’d like to do the same here.
“Every day it gets a little easier. But you have to do it every day. That’s the hard part.”
This quote has taught me that life is like running. Sometimes it can be tough. You may be out of shape or you just don’t want to give it your all, but If you keep at it every day and never give up, you CAN do it. The more you do it, the easier it gets. This is the mindset that I’m challenging myself to live by.
This summer I worked as a counselor at Camp Don Lee, a camp that where I enjoyed spending many summers. On September 5th, I underwent jaw surgery at Shriner’s Hospital in Chicago, to correct my underbite.
My upper and lower jaw were moved to improve facial proportion and teeth alignment. I am extremely thankful for this organization and I encourage any teenager who might have a similar problem like I did, to reach out to the Shriner’s to find out more about this surgery.
B.J. Murphy and I have remained in touch during my time away at Neuse News. It has made me want to get back into “the game” of a media outlet.
I’m eager to get back on the mic and start calling games again. Parker Mitchell and I will all be teaming up with other members of our incredible sports team like Junious Smith III, Laieke Abebe and Rudy Coggins to bring you high school football games of the week.
Let’s get back to work.
