Plant Propagation & Identification class starts Jan. 28

Calling all Plant Lovers! Lenoir Community College will be offering Plant Propagation & Identification on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. beginning Jan. 28. The class will end on May 5. Any interested person over 16 years of age is eligible to take the class. Tuition assistance is available for qualified students.

This course is a study of reproduction of plants. Emphasis is placed on seed propagation, grafting, stem and root propagation, micro-propagation, and other propagation techniques. Upon completion, students should be able to successfully propagate ornamental plants.  

This course also covers identification, culture, characteristics, and use of plants in a sustainable landscape. Emphasis is placed on nomenclature, identification, growth requirements, cultural requirements, soil preferences and landscape applications. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the proper selection and utilization of plant materials, including natives and invasive plants.

  • This is a hybrid section, meaning that the class will meet for lab and lecture face to face and will also have online coursework.

  • This coursework can also be applied toward the Associate of Applied Science in Horticulture Technology for students interested in continuing their studies.
