Senator Jim Perry selected as Committee Chairman

Raleigh, N.C. – Senator Jim Perry (R - Wayne, Lenoir) has been selected to serve as Co-Chair of the Joint Legislative Study Committee on Small Business Retirement Options. Perry was appointed as Chairman by Phil Berger, President Pro Tempore of the NC Senate. The appointment was authorized by Session Law 2019-205, and by the General Assembly.

“I greatly appreciate Senator Berger selecting me to serve as a Committee Chairman as a Freshman Senator,” said Perry.  “I am thankful he continues to provide me with opportunities to learn and to become a more effective lawmaker.”

The Committee shall study ways the State can reduce the regulatory and operational burden on small businesses that want to offer payroll deduction retirement savings options to employees.

Additionally, the study will include mechanisms the State could use to assist citizens to be more prepared to retire in a financially secure manner, including the operation of a State-administered Individual Retirement Account or multiple employer plan. Finally, they will determine the feasibility and benefits of partnering with other similar programs established in other jurisdictions. The final recommendation will also define optimal oversight for any proposed retirement program.
