House fire on Perry Street Wednesday

A fire broke out at 904 Perry Street in Kinston on Wednesday evening. Kinston Department of Fire and Rescue responded and arrived to see flames visible. Hugo Volunteer Fire & Rescue assisted on the call.

According to Kinston Department of Fire and Rescue Chief Damien Locklear, firefighters quickly contained the situation. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but they believe it was a cooking related fire and an official cause will be released after an investigation.

There were no injuries or rescues reported int his fire. There has been an increase in the number of fires Kinston has seen in recent days.

“We have seen an uptick in fires, some accidental and some suspicious in nature that are under investigation,” said Locklear.
