Reece Gardner: We could be witnessing the largest election turnout in history

If the turnout of voters in this first week of Early Voting continues to grow, we are in the process of witnessing the largest election turnout ever, both in North Carolina and throughout the country.  Another interesting development is the rapid growth of independent voters.

As of September 5, the number of voters in NC registered Unaffiliated rose to 2,374,902, a gain of 19,120 in just one month. This seems to be a rather clear indication that voters are looking more at where candidates stand on issues and less at their party affiliation. In recent weeks I have had the pleasure of having on my television show such current office-holders as NC House Representative Chris Humphrey, County Commissioner Chair Linda Rouse Sutton, NC Senator Jim Perry, NC District Court Judge Annette Turik, State Auditor Beth Wood, State Treasurer Dale Folwell and others, and it seemed clear that the main desire among all of them was to make things better for all of us.

We might not agree on everything, but that's OK. It has been said that if two people agree on everything, one of them is probably unnecessary. But we can agree to disagree, and we can do so agreeably. But on the national front there probably never has been more stark differences between two philosophes than there are now, such as on:

(1):  School Choice, where one side proclaims that parents should have the choice to decide what school their children attend - private, public, Etc., and the other side calls for public schools only and for banning private school vouchers;

(2)  Health Care, with one side promoting individual coverage under private healthcare insurance, based on "genuine competition", while the other side is calling for government-controlled Universal healthcare coverage, and continued lockdowns due to COVID-19);

(3)  Law and Order: One side calls for funding for police and prison reform, the other side calls for defunding the police and permitting looting and violence as a means to societal transformation;

(4)  Energy: One side is promoting fracking & the safe use of fossil fuels, while the other side is calling for a halt to fracking, the elimination of planes, trains, etc., dependence on solar energy;

(5) Second Amendment: One side is calling for the right of individuals to keep and bear arms, exercising their right of self- defense, the other side is calling for Civic Liability for gun manufacturers, universal background checks, and outlawing online gun sales and assault weapons;

(6)  Taxes: One side is for tax reductions, the other side is for tax increases.

Remember, Early Voting will continue, seven days a week, through Oct. 31, and General Election Day is Nov. 3. BE SURE TO VOTE!

Now to close with this: The rather elderly lady felt that her body had gotten out of shape, so she got a doctor's permission to join a fitness club and start exercising.

She decides to take an aerobics class for Seniors. She said she bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for about an hour, but by the time she got her leotard on, the class was over!

HAVE A WONDROUS DAY!!
